2. What This Service Is

Das Salzamt (sudern.jetzt) is a satirical internet project. It is not a government service, official authority, or a complaints body to be taken seriously. Submitted complaints are duly noted. No further action is planned or intended.

3. Data Collected and Purpose

3.1 Server Logs (IP Address)

When you access the website, your device's IP address is automatically and temporarily logged by the web server. This is done solely for technical purposes (server operation and security) and to prevent abusive use (e.g. spam, automated mass submissions).

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest)
Retention period: Maximum 7 days, after which logs are automatically deleted.

IP addresses are not linked to submitted complaints and are not shared with third parties.

3.2 Complaint Submissions (Form)

The complaint form collects exclusively:

Type of complaint (selection from predefined categories)
Complaint text (free text, max. 500 characters)
Stated duration of grievance (date input)

No name, email address, or other personal identifiers are collected or stored. The form is designed to be technically anonymous.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent via submission of the form)
Retention period: Indefinitely, for as long as the project is operated. Submissions can be deleted upon request at any time (see Section 5).

3.3 Public Case Archive

Approved submissions are published in the public case archive under a unique reference URL. Since no personal data is collected, the public archive contains no information that can be directly attributed to a natural person.

Note: Submitters are solely responsible for not including personal data of third parties (names, addresses, etc.) in the free-text field. The Office accepts no liability for data voluntarily disclosed within the complaint text.

3.4 hCaptcha

To prevent automated mass submissions, the complaint form is protected by hCaptcha, a service provided by Intuition Machines, Inc. (Intuition Machines, Inc., 1065 SW 8th St #704, Miami FL 33130, USA).

When the form is loaded, hCaptcha may collect and transmit data to Intuition Machines, Inc. servers. This may include your IP address, device information, and interaction data (mouse movements, keystrokes). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in protecting the service against abusive use)

As Intuition Machines, Inc. is based in the United States, data transfers to the US cannot be excluded. Intuition Machines, Inc. is certified under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

4. Disclosure to Third Parties

Personal data is not shared with third parties unless required by law — with the exception of the data transfer to hCaptcha described in Section 3.4 for spam protection purposes.

The server is self-hosted. No external analytics, tracking, or advertising services are used. No first-party cookies are set. hCaptcha may set cookies as part of its operation; see the Intuition Machines privacy policy for details.

5. Your Rights

Since submissions are technically anonymous and cannot be linked back to the submitting person, automated access or deletion of individual records is not technically feasible.

Nevertheless, you may exercise the following rights:
